psychiatrist in Carbondale CO welcoming psychiatric

Nikolai Furmansky, M.D.

I graduated in 2005 from The Medical School for International Health in Affiliation with Columbia University Medical Center in Be’er Sheva Israel. My training included clerkships and rotations in the Negev Desert, Ashkelon, Jerusalem, Ethiopia, and Harlem. I then completed a general psychiatric residency as well as  a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Upon completing my residency and fellowship I followed my call to service, working as a psychiatrist in rural communities in Alaska, Montana, New Mexico, and my native state of Colorado. I currently reside and practice in Carbondale, Colorado.

Over the last 20 years I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults across a spectrum of inpatient, outpatient, and substance abuse treatment settings. My diverse training and practice experiences inform my open minded, culturally sensitive, and trauma informed treatment style. I am comfortable treating a wide variety of psychiatric conditions, including (but not limited to) mood, anxiety, trauma, substance use, and thought disorders.

My pharmaceutical approach is guided by my belief that while conservative medication prescription can be beneficial, overmedication can create barriers to healing and change. My experience has taught me that a combination of biological and psychological approaches is necessary to effect lasting change. As a lifelong student of behavior and therapeutic change I incorporate various tools including Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems, Schema Based, and Insight Oriented Interpersonal Therapies into my work.

The relationship between doctor and patient must be highly valued, respected, and cultivated at all times. I believe that harmony and happiness exist at the intersection of emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
